Chhath puja is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 6th day of the month of Kartika according to the Hindu calendar. This festival is dedicated to the god of energy (Sun). People celebrate this festival to devote their thanks to the lords Surya for blessing the life on the earth by worshiping the Sun very enthusiastically. They pray for the good being, success and the progress of their family. It is celebrated in the various states of India like Bihar, UP, and Jharkhand and is also celebrated in Nepal.
On this day people wake up early in the morning to take a holy bath in the holy river Ganga and keep the fast for the entire day by not even having water also. The rituals of the festival are rigorous and are observed over a period of four days. People keep themselves standing in the water for a long time.
